It is a premium, tethered 7.4kW charger with excellent solar controls, a polished app and unusually strong compatibility with both Octopus Intelligent Go and OVO Charge Anytime.
It also comes with a slightly awkward truth: although Hypervolt ranked number one overall in Auto Express Driver Power 2024, owners placed it seventh out of eight for build quality and seventh for ease of use. That does not make it a bad charger, but it does mean the installation, setup and ongoing support matter.

The charger comes in Space Grey, Ultra Black and Ultra White. The white model uses a UV-resistant shell designed not to yellow, addressing one of the complaints associated with the older Home 2.
Hypervolt’s official technical specification confirms IP66 dust and water-jet protection and an IK10 impact rating. That makes it suitable for an unsheltered driveway wall, although no charger is a substitute for sensible positioning and a tidy cable-management plan.
Design & Build Quality
The Home 3 Pro looks more premium than many functional-looking wallboxes. Its curved enclosure, front logo and adjustable LEDs give it a distinctive appearance, while the permanent cable is convenient if you want to plug in and drive away without fetching a separate lead from the boot.
The IP66 and IK10 ratings are reassuring for outdoor installation. It is built to cope with dust, rain and the occasional encounter with a football, hedge trimmer or overenthusiastic delivery driver.
However, we should not gloss over the Driver Power feedback. Hypervolt owners ranked the brand seventh for build quality in 2024, despite ranking it first overall. This is an important distinction. The survey also put Hypervolt first for style, reliability, installation process, customer service and smartphone app, but the lower build-quality score suggests that some owners expected more physical solidity from a premium-priced product.
In our view, that makes professional installation particularly important. Correct mounting, cable routing and commissioning will have a bigger effect on your experience than simply choosing a smart-looking box.
Smart Features & App
The Hypervolt app gives you control over charging schedules, session monitoring, energy use, charging costs, LED brightness and access controls. It is one of the charger’s strongest features, and Driver Power ranked Hypervolt first for its smartphone app.
Connectivity is through 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy, with Bluetooth helping during setup. There is no 4G fallback, so you need reasonably reliable Wi-Fi at the charger location. If your driveway is separated from the router by thick walls, a garage or half of Worcestershire, we would discuss signal strength before installation rather than discovering the problem after the engineer has left.
The charger also supports plug-and-charge operation, scheduling and automatic load management. The supplied CT clamp measures household electrical demand and can help balance charging on homes with 60A or 80A supplies. It also provides the information needed for the charger’s solar modes.
Octopus Energy EV Charging and OVO Integration
For octopus energy ev charging, the Home 3 Pro is particularly interesting. It has native first-class integration with both Octopus Intelligent Go and OVO Charge Anytime, which is still relatively unusual.

That means the Hypervolt can work with Intelligent Go, but you should not expect the same tariff-specific behaviour as an Ohme charger. In particular, there are no bonus off-peak charging slots through this setup; the standard 11:30pm to 5:30am window applies.
You should also avoid running competing schedules in the car and charger app once Octopus is in control. Otherwise, three different systems may be trying to conduct the same orchestra, and none of them has brought a baton.

Solar Compatibility
Solar charging is one of the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro’s best reasons to exist. The CT clamp is supplied in the box, and the charger offers two useful solar modes.
Eco mode uses solar generation where possible and supplements it with grid electricity when necessary. Super Eco mode uses solar energy only, so charging pauses when there is not enough surplus generation.
That makes the experience broadly comparable with the Zappi’s ECO+ approach. The key advantage is that Hypervolt brings solar control and tariff scheduling together in one app. With a Zappi, you may find yourself managing solar settings on the charger while handling tariff schedules separately.
Super Eco is excellent if your priority is maximising self-consumption and avoiding grid electricity. It is less suitable if you need a guaranteed charge every morning during a grey January week. Eco is the more practical everyday setting because it can keep charging rather than stopping every time a cloud wanders across the sun.
Installation, Safety and Compliance
The Home 3 Pro is designed for a standard UK home installation, although your property still needs a proper electrical assessment. The charger includes internal 6mA DC residual-current protection and integrated PEN fault protection, while external overcurrent and AC protection must be provided as part of the installation.
It complies with the UK Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021, as amended in 2025. That includes requirements such as default off-peak charging, randomised delay functionality and demand-side response signalling.
Good installation is not merely about fixing the unit to a wall. The engineer needs to assess the cable route, consumer unit, earthing arrangement, Wi-Fi signal, CT clamp location and the available capacity of the home supply.

Its Driver Power result is impressive, but the honest reading is more nuanced than simply calling it number one.
