Hey everyone, it’s Penny here from the EV Power Point team! I’ve got some massive news to share today that’s going to make a huge difference to anyone looking to get an EV charger installed over the next year.

We’ve just received an official update from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) regarding the grant landscape for the 2026/27 financial year. If you’ve been sitting on the fence about getting a home ev charger installation or upgrading your business setup, you’ll want to pay close attention.

The bottom line? There is a mix of fantastic news regarding grant increases, some urgent deadlines for closing schemes, and a total shift in how you apply for funding. Let’s break down exactly what this means for you, your home, and your business.

The Big Headline: Grants are Jumping to £500!

Let’s start with the best bit. From April 1st, 2026, the maximum grant rate for the majority of continuing schemes is increasing from £350 to £500 per socket.

That is an extra £150 back in your pocket! This increase applies to:

This is a significant boost from the government to help push the UK toward its net-zero goals. Whether you’re a tenant looking to make the switch to electric or a landlord looking to add value to your property, this extra funding makes a high-quality ev charging point installation more affordable than ever.

The Final Countdown: 2026/27 is the Last Year

While the grant increase is great news, there is a catch. The 2026/27 financial year will be the final year of the current OZEV grant schemes. The government has confirmed that these grants will officially close on March 31st, 2027.

This means if you’ve been planning to take advantage of government funding, this is your last window of opportunity. We expect a huge surge in demand as we approach these final deadlines, so getting your application in early is going to be crucial to avoid missing out.

Urgent: Some Grants are Closing NEXT MONTH

While some grants are getting an extension and a pay rise, others are being axed completely. If you are a commercial landlord or a business owner focusing on your fleet, you need to act right now.

The following grants will close permanently on March 31st, 2026:

  1. Staff & Fleets grant
  2. Residential Landlord infrastructure grant
  3. Commercial Landlord charge point grant

If you fall into these categories, you have just a few weeks left to get your application submitted. The last date for us as installers to claim these grants is May 26th, 2026, but the customer application must be in by the end of March. Don’t leave it until the last minute: give us a shout today, and we can help you navigate the paperwork before the door shuts.

Changes for Schools and Education Institutions

Our local schools and state-funded education centres in the West Midlands have been able to access some incredible funding recently. However, there is a slight adjustment coming here too.

From April 1st, 2026, the maximum grant rate for the Workplace Charging Scheme for State-Funded Education Institutions will decrease from £2,500 to £2,000 per socket.

While £2,000 is still a fantastic amount of support, if your school has been considering an installation, applying before April 1st will save you an extra £500 per socket. If you apply now, those vouchers will be redeemable until September 30th, 2026, giving you plenty of time to get the work done over the summer holidays.

Navigating the New “Find a Grant” Platform

The way you apply for these grants is also getting a complete makeover. From April 1st, OZEV is moving away from its current digital portal and migrating to the government’s central “Find a Grant” platform.

This change is designed to simplify things, but it does mean a few new steps for you:

At EV Power Point, we pride ourselves on being experts in the OLEV (now OZEV) government grant. We’ve handled hundreds of these applications, and we’ll be right there to guide you through the new platform so you don’t have to stress about the tech side of things.

Important Timelines for Your Installation

If you are looking to secure that new £500 rate, the timing of your installation matters.

Just remember: Charge points must not be installed until you have been notified of your eligibility. If we drill the holes and mount the unit before OZEV says “go,” you could lose your funding entirely.

Why Choose EV Power Point for Your 2026 Installation?
